our crew speaks

As a coordinator of the agarbatti project, I had a wonderful learning experience. When I was told about this project i was really happy since it was a god given chance to explore my knowledge and was considered to be capable of taking the project to the peak.

“A goal without a plan is just a wish”

So our first step was planning. We had many business options with us.    After a lot of research and discussion we decided that we would go ahead with agarbatti making. The path was not so easy since this it was the first time we were about to start a business.

Due to the financial constraints we decided that we on our own would make money by selling paper pens. These pens were made by our students using refills and waste news papers.

We had to use our lecture time and organize.

About 250 pens were made including varieties of gel pen and ball pen . This money collected was used to buy the raw materials for agarbatti making. We named our brand as INNOSCENT. It’s a scented agarbatti containing delightful fragrance. In start we faced lot of problems since there was no uniformity in the size made by children.

“But practice and hardwork makes man perfect.”

Later it was a easy going job. The first two levels were crossed by us. Now it was the turn of sales. Children of our school didn’t have such type of exposure before. After training them, the team of 12 children started the work by visiting houses, shops and markets for selling agarbattis.

Our range has been appreciated for the rejuvenating aroma, eco friendliness and variety.

Then we put up workshops for other children in school and even the immediate community. They actively participated in the learning process. We had mixed feed back. Some people like the project because it was inculcating the qualities like team work, good communication skills etc in our children. But some thought that it was just a way to earn money by depriving the school children from education. Till now we have made 50kgs of agarbattis and the endeavor continues.

Before this project I had the experience of putting food stalls in fairs in our area, but that was not a systematic business. By this project I have learned to plan and to do the business systematically. Also training the children inculcated in me the quality of mentorship.

I TRULY ENJOYED TO BE THE PART OF THIS PROJECT

I am in the sales team. We have so far received mixed response from the public. Some people welcomed us with a lot of interest, whereas some tried to bring us down by blaming the project. Some of them even complained that some sticks did not have fragrance and we immediately got the sticks back from them, perfumed again and returned them to the customers. I think this experience will help us a lot in  future.
